Experiment

After creating the small maquette of a doll i decided to take a mold of the face using Dragon Skin FX pro along with a plaster backing.

After this I decided to pour clear resin and dye it with some pigments. This did not work as planned because the pigments did not dissolve and remained in clumps. These clumps sank to the bottom and created holes in the resin after it cured. the result actually came quite gruesome looking!

Still hopeful, I poured a second batch of resin, this time without any pigments and it worked!

I absolutely love the transparent effect of the resin, it worked so well. It still needs to be buffed to get that glass look, but other than that, I am super happy with it.

My Sister’s Birthday Present

By the time my sister’s birthday came along, I realized that my bank account was dangerously low and I was in a panicked state because I couldn’t afford anything descent for her. Then it came to me! I decided to go all DIY and MAKE her a present. I quickly went into my basement and found an old Chinese pancake holder, thick rope, a glue gun and some air dry clay. First I used my glue gun to stick the rope around the Chinese pancake holder to mask the wicker look. I then thought it needed a knob to open the box, so I sculpted a little dolls face with bunny ears and stuck it in the middle.

Then I cut a small piece of watercolour paper and named it “Emily’s Box of Temptations”, and stuck it just below the sculpture. Finally I went to the supermarket and bought lots of sweets and chocolates and filled the box. Thankfully she loved it 🙂
